Assyrian Literature Committee

The Assyrian Literature Committee of San Jose (Society) was founded in February of 2005 by a small group of Assyrian language enthusiasts in San Jose, California. The objective of the founding group of the Society was to hold poetry night events where individuals would read articles and poems of their own or that of others as well as to publish the presented material in audio and video format.

Poetry nights provide the general audience with a flavor of how rich our mother language is.  The setting of the poetry nights provides our younger generation with an opportunity to take courage to write articles or poems in Assyrian.  Attending the poetry nights by our younger writers and poets is an effective way for their learning of new vocabulary and also different writing styles from those with more experience.  This learning process can promote further work and research in Assyrian studies; thereby, help preserving the Assyrian cultural heritage.

The Society also was planning on publishing other works by prominent Assyrians writers and poets in a digitally reproduced format.

The Society also intends to have an online dictionary preferably including Assyrian-Assyrian, English-Assyrian, and Assyrian-English listings.  It is acknowledged and understood that this is a major undertaking. The members of the Society however, are committed to preserving of our language and therefore, are prepared to make this intent a reality.
